January 5, 2010 David Sandwell dsandwell@ucsd.edu This directory comtains the data used in the publication: Becker, J. J., and D. T. Sandwell (2008), Global estimates of seafloor slope from single-beam ship soundings, J. Geophys. Res., 113, C05028, doi:10.1029/2006JC003879. alpha.grd alpha.ps - grid and postscript file of Figure 1 - critical slope at the bottom of the ocean. slope.grd slope.ps - grid and postscript file of Figure 6 - mean of absolute value of slope block_ship_slope_world.xyz - mean of |slopes| in grid cells 0.25 longitude and 0.2 latitude fract_all.grd fract.ps - grid and postscript file of Figure 7a - fraction of |slope| above critical slope Note that the fract_all.grd was done on a point-by-point basis. In other words we assembled all the slope data in a .25 by 0.2 cell, counted tne number of slopes > critical and divided by the total. So this computation uses every slope data point.
