The homework assignments make up 25% of the grade in ES 10. Homeworks are generally assigned every other Friday, and are due one week after they are assigned. Late homeworks are accepted, but are penalized 10% per class meeting that they are late. Late homeworks will not be accepted more than one week after they are due.
Get an e-mail account, visit the ES 10 web page at: http://topex.ucsd.edu/es10/es10.html, and send Greg a piece of e-mail. Jokes are encouraged.
You get to calculate the age of the universe in this homework assignment. If you didn't get a copy of the homework in class on Friday, 9 January, you can get one here. You may find that Handout 1 is useful for this homework assignment.
Handout 1 is only available from this web site, not in class or from Soft Reserves.
Note: the answer sheet for Homework 2 is now online. People turning in Homework 2 after lecture on 23 January will receive no credit for the assignment, though Greg will grade it.
You get a mixed bag in this homework assignment -- some short answer questions, a nicely graphical question, and a tough math/graphing question. You won't find all the answers to the short-answer questions in your book. If you didn't get a copy of the homework in class on Friday, 23 January, you can get one here. You will need to use Handout 2 to do this assignment. We strongly encourage you to read the homework before Monday, 26 January, and come to the discussion section that day.
Discussion is held on Mondays in Peterson 102 from 3:35 to 4:25 PM. Note that on Monday, 26 January, there will be an extra discussion section from 5:45 to 6:35 PM in Warren Lecture Hall 2205.
Handout 2 is only available from this web site, not in class or from Soft Reserves.
Note: the answer sheet for Homework 3 is now online. People turning in Homework 3 after lecture on 4 February will receive no credit for the assignment, though Greg will grade it.
If you didn't get a copy of the homework in class on Friday, 13 February, you can get one here.
Discussion next week will be held on Wednesday, 18 February in Peterson 104 from 6:45 to 8:00 PM.
Note: the answer sheet for Homework 4 is now online.
If you didn't get a copy of the homework in class on Friday, 27 February, you can get one here.
Discussion next week will be held on Wednesday, 4 March in Peterson 103 from 5:45 to 7:00 PM.
I've included an example which should help you work out problems 1-5 on Homework 5.
Note: the answer sheet for Homework 5 is now online.
